The Order of the Patriotic War Established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 20, 1942. The Order of the Patriotic War is awarded to individuals of the rank and file of the Red Army, Navy, NKVD troops and partisan detachments, who showed courage, stamina and courage in the battles for the Soviet Motherland, as well as military personnel who, through their actions, contributed to the success of the military operations of our troops.

This is an Order of the Patriotic War 2’st class. The maker mark(MONETNIY DVOR) is made in two lines. The order is made of solid silver, gold and enamels. Total weight is about 27g without the silver disc. The maker mark Monetni Dvor is located at the 6 o’clock position underneath the screw and the serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position it reads “808729”. Overall very good condition with light signs of age and use. The enamel is intact.

 

This is what we find in the Russian military archives about this order:


“On September 9, 1944, the squadron, acting as part of a tank landing, broke into the village of Chorkówka (Poland), where a heated battle ensued with the enemy garrison. A platoon of Lieutenant Nesterenko broke through the enemy’s defence and knocked them out of the occupied line. Therefore ensuring the fulfillment of the squadron’s task. In this battle the platoon of comrade Nesterenko destroyed up to 20 enemy soldiers and officers, while Comrade Nesterenko himself destroyed 6 enemies from the machine gun. Continuing the offensive, the squadron burst into the village of Kobylyany, where the enemy fiercely resisted. The platoon of comrade Nesterenko repelled 2 enemy counter attacks. In this battle, a platoon destroyed 2 machine guns along with personnel and 19 enemy soldiers and officers.
